Pauline Courchene: Welcome, in this short webinar I will show you how to apply to the University of San Francisco’s online MPA program.

I will start with a brief introduction, cover the admissions requirements and finish the webinar with the steps needed to complete a successful application.

My name is Pauline Courchene and I am an enrollment advisor for the University of San Francisco online MPA program. You can see my contact information on the screen. I am available by phone or email. If you have several questions I recommend that you call me or schedule an appointment so that I can answer your questions in more depth.

In order to qualify for the program, you need to have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. If you have a degree from a foreign country you will need to have an evaluation completed first. You need at least 2 years of professional work experience. This can include internships and/or volunteer work. Your GPA should be a 3.0 or above. But we do look at applicants holistically and so a GPA of just below a 3.0 may be considered. If you are unsure if you qualify, please contact me so we can discuss your options.

Get ready to apply. First time users need to create an account. Once created, you will be emailed an activation link with a pin. Click the link to create a password and enter the pin when asked.

Once you have created an account and logged in, click on “Start New Application”. When prompted for application type, select “School of Management”.

And when asked to select a program and a campus select “Public Administration (MPA)” and then make sure you select “online” as the campus.

Request unofficial transcripts. We do not want official transcripts at this point. We want unofficial transcripts as the application is paperless. We will ask you to request official transcripts after you have been admitted to the program. Have the transcript saved to your computer so you can click to upload it.

Application essay and resume. You will need to write an application essay of 1000 words. If you need help writing your essay, there are many websites that offer tips on how to write a statement of purpose. Ask a friend or colleague to proofread the essay before you submit it. It is very important that you showcase your writing skills.
You also need to upload a current resume. Make sure that the information matches the information that you have added to the application.

Add 2 letters of recommendation. We prefer recommendations from professional contacts. These should be contacts who can comment on your skills and abilities. We need the email addresses of your contacts as a request for a letter of recommendation will be sent via email. Make sure that your recommenders are expecting an email and ask them to check their spam or junk folders. Letters of recommendation must be returned direct to the application system, we will not accept letters emailed from the applicant.

When you review the application, you will be unable to submit it if there are items that have not been completed. If everything has been completed, you will be able to submit. The application fee is $55.

So why choose our MPA program? We are a private, non-profit Jesuit University with over 9000 students both online and on campus. You will have between 15-25 students in your class and you will learn from the same dedicated faculty that you would have for classes on campus. Your degree will be from the University of San Francisco. Your degree certificate will not say online. The program is 100% online and asynchronous so there are no set log in times. We are regionally accredited by the WSCUC and also by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration. This program is ranked one of the Best Public Affairs Schools by U.S. News and World Report 2016.

Thank you, I look forward to helping you with your application and answering your questions. You can call me at 866-665-4178. My extension is 5236. I will be happy to answer your questions. Thank you again. Enjoy your day.
